"I really enjoy playing for weddings. There is for me always a feeling that two people’s stories have come together to this moment, becoming one. Music does so much to give the occasion a very special emotional lift. Whether the Canon in D, Coldplay or Can You Feel the Love Tonight it’s so fulfilling to give the music the right energy that the more more weddings I play the more I like it.

The signing of the register is, I’m told, a peculiarly Canadian moment when the couple is spiritually married but still has to do the paperwork! This is a wonderful moment to make a musical memory, to play a piece which has a special meaning. Every time it’s heard in the future the memory will return. The recessional is a wonderful big celebratory piece that mixes with the glad noise from all the people and signals the end of the ceremony and the beginning of the party.

It gives me great pride to make these moments as perfect as can be, whether as a solo guitarist or with other musicians. I’m always left with a sense of having shared a moment of great joy. That’s why I like playing for weddings."
